MY STORY - MY CHALLENGE

My name is David Bonne, I am 53 years old and 5 years ago I admitted myself to hospital with chest pains, 48 hours later I had 4 artery stents, and was advised I had over 90% blockage of my main arteries and that I dodged the "Widowmaker" (A widowmaker heart attack is a type of heart attack in which you have a full blockage in your heart's biggest artery. I had no idea - this was a total shock to me.

Heart disease impacts 2 in every 3 people is first world developed countries - with most people having no idea they have a problem.

Since then, I have struggled with high blood pressure, weight, lack of fitness, and taking tablets daily for my coronary artery condition. I would struggle with shortness of breath two hundred metres into a run, which was so discouraging with no improvements given I have lived a relatively active life. I have tried many supplements, training programs, and diets which have not been effective. Something needs to change!

So, with the guidance of my GP, I am going to flick the switch on my current health by testing my limits with healthy habits across many facets of life, taking the harder road, with the end goal of completing an Ironman event in 12 months' time [3.8km Swim, 180km Bike, 42.2km Run] so I can reverse the effects of my arterial health and become tablet free. 

Along the way I will raise awareness and raise valuable funds to Heart Research Australia for the early detection and treatment programs for heart disease which will save lives.
